Hanauma Bay Snorkeling Tour

BEAUTIFUL COASTAL RIDE TO OAHU’S BEST SNORKELING SPOT

It is a beautiful 12 mile coastal ride to the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve.The parking is free and always available for mopeds and bicycles. There is a minimal $5 entry and you must watch a short educational video on the bay before entering. Snorkel gear is available on the beach for $10. You can bring your own gear if you like. Depending on the time of year you can expect long lines to get in. Hanauma Bay is closed every Tuesday.

DIRECTIONS:

Head toward the ocean on Kapahulu Ave. Take a left at Kalakaua Ave. Ride next to the WAIKIKI AQUARIUM and THE WAR MEMORlAL and see KAPIOLANI PARK. After the water fountain, stay straight and explore the historic homes on Coconut Ave until it intersects Diamond Head Road. Make a right and climb to the top where views of local surfers and the DIAMOND HEAD LIGHTHOUSE await. Enjoy driving through the Beverly Hills of Oahu as Diamond Head Rd becomes Kahala Ave. Follow the stop sign to the 72. Stay on the bike path here and be prepared to ride with some pretty fast traffic against some strong winds. PRECAUTION: PLEASE BE AWARE OF CARS MAKING RIGHT TURNS FROM THE FAR RIGHT LANE. After 6.5 miles on the 72 you will hit a very steep hill. The entrance to HANAUMA BAY is at the top of the hill. After paying an entry fee and watching a required video you can rent snorkel gear on the beach. When you’re finished take the same way back to the 72. If you would like to do some rock diving check out CHINA WALLS by making a left on Lunalio Home Rd. If you would like to hike KOKO HEAD CRATER, make a right at Lunalio Home Rd. Coming back is always easier, because the wind is on your back. Take the Kilauea Exit and make a left to stay on Kilauea underneath the freeway. Feel free to visit the KAHALA MALL then make a left onto 18th Ave. Make a right on Diamond Road. Pass the entrance to Diamond Head, then make a right on Paki Ave. Make a left Kapahulu, then a right on Lemon Road to return to the shop.
